Reviews

“We had such an amazing time in your beautiful village and have come away inspired, nourished (in more than one sense of the word!), relaxed and with some new friends for life. And last, but not least, what we have taken away from our flute lessons and group session. Thank you, thank you “– Claire C.

“Energised and re-connected after a wonderful #bohoflute retreat in Cornwall with the inspirational musician that is Jessica Quiñones @jqflute – thank you

“Dear Jessica, Thank you for the great days with you on the flute course. The lessons were just what I needed and feel that I now have a practice plan and some new music and ideas to focus on. What a great massage…loved the yoga, too! I hope I will be able to return one day. With love to you” — Susie A. x.

“Jessica is a warm and deeply empathetic flute teacher with a beautiful belief that there is a space for every kind of flute player in this world. She is currently working with me to help me become the type of flute player that I want to be and it is a beautiful process of discovering new repertoire, reconnecting with the instrument and fun, challenging exercises that bring more freedom to my playing. I first met Jessica on her beautiful Cornwall Boho retreat for flute players and had some lessons there in person. We are now continuing via Skype which is working really well. If you are looking for a teacher to reawaken your inspiration for the flute, I can not recommend Jessica highly enough!” — Hannah D.

“I had the true privilege of attending Jessica’s Boho Nourished Flautist Retreat in St. Agnes in September 2019, having stumbled across it on a Google search of flute masterclasses. The three hours of one-to-one lessons I attended with Jessica as part of the retreat package were the most informative and enjoyable flute lessons I’ve ever had in many years of studying flute with private teachers in the USA, Germany and Northern Ireland. Jessica’s level of professional knowledge and expertise with all things related to flute-playing far surpasses that of any teacher I’ve worked with in over 35 years of my playing the flute.
Her warm, welcoming friendly approach instantly put me at ease and allowed me to feel comfortable enough to relax and play to my best ability. It was wonderful not to have to waste time feeling nervous and really just get straight down to work, improving my hand-position, finger technique and tone. I made noticeable improvements within just three hours of face-to-face lessons and just recently enjoyed my first follow-up lesson with Jessica by Skype (I would have to take 2 flights to reach Cornwall, so decided to give the Skype lesson a go). What a pleasant surprise to discover that my Skype lesson with Jessica was every bit as useful, thorough and productive as meeting with her in person!

She is helping me to critically analyse my chosen pieces from an entirely new perspective, which is the benefit of having such a highly-qualified professional teacher. I’m so grateful I trusted my gut instinct and booked my place on the Boho Retreat this past September. Not only did I learn so much about flute-playing, I made some wonderful new friends (we are still keeping in touch) and have beautiful memories of the amazing countryside around St Agnes.

The professionally guided hikes along the stunning Southwest Coastal Path were a highpoint for me of the retreat, as well as swimming in the beautifully calm Trevaunance Cove. The energizing yoga class and calming back massage offered by local professional providers rounded out what was a truly holistic retreat weekend and I can’t wait to return next summer!”” — Susan M.

“I attended the September 2019 Boho Retreat and thoroughly enjoyed my weekend, gaining and learning such a lot in my sessions with Jessica who is so encouraging and inspirational and works to the level of each individual. (Ours was a very mixed ability group of very varied levels which only served to reinforce our group experience, especially in the final group playing session).

Each lesson is followed up by really constructive lesson notes. Added to the flute playing, there was the relaxing group yoga session and individual massage, both with qualified practitioners as well as the daily informatIve guided walks which helped to round off the whole weekend Boho experience. Not to mention the group evening meals when we all bonded. I made some wonderful friends and we are still in contact.

If you are considering participating in the Boho Retreat this year, go for it. I recommend it.” — Su M.

“I owe you a huge debt of gratitude. The work I did under your guidance was so instrumental (ha!) in giving me the confidence and the skill to tackle the alto flute, and I’m immensely grateful to you… A beautiful experience with beautiful people.’’– Kimberly B.

“I attended the September 2019 flute retreat having met Jessica back in 2017 on a flute day in Bristol and also attended a previous retreat of hers in that same year. The idea of 3 hours of 1-1 with her (plus a 4th hour follow up after the retreat) followed by daily coastal walks around St Agnes and also a yoga class and an individual massage session given by local practitioner drew me to go back !!

I’m really glad I went back. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend. not only did I get so much out of my 1-1 lessons with Jessica, pre -retreat she’d asked us for a comprehensive summary of our fluting playing to date and what we wanted to get out of the retreat.Jessica had clearly digested this all the information I’d given her and over our time together we were able to explore ways forward.

I also had a wonderful time bonding with the other participants over walks, evening meals and the final ensemble session. Some of us also met in London after the retreat ended and are still in touch now.

I’ve been on a number of different flute courses around the country over the years and can honestly say if your looking for a small intimate group setting in a non competitive environment in a beautiful part of the country I’d highly recommend it- you honestly won’t regret it. I’m already looking to sign up to the next one”. — Laura J.

“Wow, what a great day we had last Saturday and I have really benefited from the work we did. This week I have felt so much more free in my playing, as if I’ve been given permission to step outside of the box called ‘traditional classical flute training’ into somewhere else, unknown and exciting”… — Fiona R.

“If you play the flute and are looking to spark up your creativity, then @JQflute is the lady for you!” — Tanya B., via Twitter

“Loved having the opportunity to perform and to listen and watch others perform, too. The vibrato section was great as it wasn’t something that I’d understood before (and the technique section was very useful – thank you) — Jason B.”

“I had a wonderful time in St. Agnes! A huge thank you to your and your lovely team for making me feel so welcome. Your lessons gave me much to think about in my playing and you’ve certainly given me an entirely new way to approach my pieces. “– Joannah M.

“Dear Jessica,I can’t believe it’s been a month already since we were in St Agnes. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend: it certainly was nourishing in many ways. I have been getting my flute out of its box regularly and tomorrow I am going to a friend’s house to play some flute and ‘cello duets. I am also enjoying playing much more, now that it’s for ‘me’ and not for teaching, which has been quite a shift…. A fantastic weekend, Jessica. Thank you for your kindness and support”– Jackie B.”

“Dear Jessica, I wanted to thank you for a brilliant weekend in St. Agnes. I thought the course was organised brilliantly and I feel that I have so much to explore in my playing and to think about. The only downside was that I wish it could have been longer! Again thank you and I look forward in the future to coming down to St. Agnes to attend a future course– there has been some wonderful memories and experiences this weekend” — Alison W.

“The retreat was brilliant, thank-you. Very illuminating. Fabulous lessons!”– Katherine L.

“I had a great weekend with you on the retreat, thought the retreat definitely matched its title – I certainly felt refreshed and appreciated the Yoga and Meditation as well as the musical activity. The beautiful surroundings at St Agnes and all the contributors to the workshop and the friendly hosts at our B&B all helped to make it a good weekend. The team you brought together to run the retreat were inspirational – they seemed content in themselves, happy in their work and great enablers.” — Barbara Y.

“On my way back from the Boho Flute Retreat in lovely St. Agnes, Cornwall. A nice refresher on creativity, extended techniques, flute choir, plus yoga and meditation (on a cliff), and the most wonderful Cornish hospitality (they made dairy free scones and cream for me!!!). Thank you Dr. Jessica!” — Cristina C. via Facebook
